FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
With Talkspace Psychiatry, the first step toward getting help is to complete a brief assessment. Once you’re matched with a psychiatric clinician, you’ll have a live video session where you’ll share how you’ve been feeling. From there, they’ll prescribe a treatment plan—if that includes a prescription (such as Cymbalta), you can get it from your local pharmacy.
Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is taken in different forms, dosages, and frequency, depending on your mental health condition and the treatment plan prescribed by your provider.
It’s important to take Cymbalta and its generic form, Duloxetine, exactly as prescribed by your clinician. Side effects of Cymbalta are often mild, but can include nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, headache, sleepiness, constipation, changes in appetite or sex drive, and more. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience thoughts of suicide, hallucinations, blurred vision, shortness of breath, chest tightness, painful and long-lasting erections, bleeding that won’t stop, or aggressive behavior.
Cymbalta is a good medication to treat anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia and social anxiety disorder.
Although some people experience changes in weight when taking SNRIs like Cymbalta, most people who take Cymbalta report decreased appetite and weight loss. The results from a study published in Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment support that SNRIs such as Cymbalta more often cause decreased appetite and weight loss.
When you first start taking Cymbalta, you might feel frequent dizziness due to a drop in blood pressure. Headaches, nausea, diarrhea, dry mouth, decreased appetite, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia are also symptoms that might come with taking Cymbalta. However, these will often improve over the first week or two as you continue to take it.
If you suffer from one of the following conditions you shouldn’t take Cymbalta: manic behavior, alcoholism, suicidal thoughts, high blood pressure, liver problems, seizures, kidney disease.
