FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

With Talkspace Psychiatry, the first step toward getting help is to complete a brief assessment. Once you’re matched with a psychiatric clinician, you’ll have a live video session where you’ll share how you’ve been feeling. From there, they’ll prescribe a treatment plan—if that includes a prescription (such as Lamictal), you can have it delivered to your door.

Lamictal (Lamotrigine) can be taken in different forms, dosages, and frequency, depending on your mental health condition and the treatment plan prescribed by your provider.

It’s important to take Lamictal and its generic form, Lamotrigine, exactly as prescribed by your clinician. Side effects of Lamictal are often mild, but can include blurred vision, drowsiness, sweating, weight gain, clumsiness, nausea and vomiting, seizures, and more. Tell your doctor if you develop a rash. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience thoughts of suicide, worsening seizures, unexpected bleeding or bruising, stiff neck, or a high fever.

Lamictal is a mood stabilizer medication that treats bipolar disorder and select seizure disorders. It is the only mood stabilizer that eases mood swings by lifting the depression instead of suppressing the mania.

At first, taking Lamictal can cause you to feel drowsy or make you have trouble falling asleep. If these symptoms get in the way of your daily life, or persist for a long time, talk to your doctor or pharmacist about other medicines you could take.

Lamictal decreases the intensity of irregular electrical activity in the brain, effectively delaying the time between mood changes and manic or depressive states for people with bipolar disorder. In addition, when used to reduce seizure activity, Lamictal inhibits signaling receptors in the brain, signaling that the brain is “tuned down,” which can help reduce seizure activity.

Lamictal is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat any anxiety disorders. It is a mood stabilizer and anticonvulsant approved to treat bipolar disorder and seizure disorders
